A Norwich shop which was banned from selling alcohol after serving underage customers has been ordered to pay court costs of nearly £5,000.

The Norwich Mini Market and Off Licence in St Stephen's Road had its licence revoked on January 30, after appealing a three-month ban handed down by Norwich City Council's licensing sub-committee.

However, a licensing bench sitting at Norwich Magistrates' Court not only upheld the ban but permanently revoked the shop's alcohol licence.

At a separate hearing, on Thursday, the shop was ordered to cover the court costs of £4,696.51.

The court had previously heard that counterfeit alcohol and cigarettes was found on the premises, and shop staff had sold alcohol to customers including a 13-year-old and a 17-year-old girl who was later taken to hospital.

Owner Ali Capti said he had taken steps to prevent the offences happening again, but chairman of the bench Paul Allen said the way the shop had been managed displayed 'a tolerance for criminal activity on the premises'.
