A Norwich paedophile who twice raped a schoolgirl and subjected her to other serious sexual abuse has been jailed for 12 years.

Andrew Bradwell, who moved to Parkers Close, Easton from Leicester was convicted by a jury of both rapes and five counts of indecently assaulting her.

He was also found guilty of indecently assaulting a friend of the schoolgirl and twice sexually assaulting another young woman with learning difficulties.

Leicester Crown Court heard on Monday that the schoolgirl was raped in the back garden of a house in Leicester and also in woodland in Beaumont Leys.

She was first attacked in 1993 when she was under 10 years old and there was more serious abuse when she was 12.

The rapes took place when she was 13 and 14, between April 1999 and 2000.

The defendant had said that, when he raped the victim in the woods, it was to make her pay for a mobile phone he had given her.

Bradwell denied the charges when he stood trial at Leicester Crown Court earlier this year.

Sentencing 47-year-old Bradwell, Judge Michael Pert QC made him the subject of a sexual offences prevention order including banning any contact with the three victims and forbidding him from having unsupervised contact with children when he is released from jail.

Judge Pert said the charges Bradwell was convicted of represented a range of sex abuse of the main victim.

The assault on her friend involved him kissing her on the mouth in 1998.

The two assaults on the young woman with learning difficulties in 2009 involved attempting to have sex with her, as well as kissing her, all without her consent.

Judge Pert told Bradwell, in relation to the 2009 offences: 'It was opportunistic conduct towards a vulnerable person.

'I have to sentence you for 10 counts of sex offences against three victims. You abuse vulnerable people who fall into your power.'

Bradwell was told he will have to serve half of the 12-year sentence, and will be on licence for the remainder.

Steven Newcombe, defending, said Bradwell had found it difficult awaiting sentence in custody.

He added: 'It's the first time he has served a custodial sentence.

'He doesn't complain about his own position.

'His primary concern is for his mother, who is not in the best of health.

'He is aware it's going to be a significant prison sentence.'
