Bosses at Norwich City have launched an investigation into reports of homophobia at Saturday's home match.

During the championship game against Birmingham City, a Canary fan reported that another home supporter was making homophobic statements at half-time.

In a statement posted on their website yesterday, the club confirmed that they had received the complaint and were now looking into the serious offence.

The statement said that the club has a 'zero-tolerance stance on all forms of discrimination', adding that any fans found guilty will be banned from Carrow Road.

The behaviour was reported using the club's safeguarding reporting hotline.

A spokesperson for Norfolk Police said: 'We are aware of allegations of homophobic abuse at the Norwich match against Birmingham City at Carrow Road on Saturday. However, we have not received any formal complaint.'

The allegation comes just weeks after two Norwich City fans accused of making racist noises during a match against Wolverhampton Wanderers were suspended from Carrow Road.

The pair were banned from the club pending the outcome of an ongoing investigation into their alleged behaviour at the Molineux stadium on Sunday, August 10.

Canary fans reported supporters allegedly making monkey sounds at Wolves players during the 1-0 Championship defeat.

The issue of homophobia in football has been under the spotlight this month, thanks to a Rainbow Laces campaign organised by Stonewall, a lesbian, gay and bisexual rights charity, and Paddy Power.

Players were encouraged to don brightly coloured shoe laces, with Arsenal players Theo Walcott, Olivier Giroud and Santi Cazorla starring in a TV advert to promote the cause.
