A Norfolk police special constable is recovering after a motorist drove his vehicle at him.

The special constable was on shift in Thetford on Friday when the driver intentionally drove his vehicle towards him, Darren Taylor, chief officer for Norfolk Special Constabulary tweeted.

CO Taylor tweeted that the assaulted officer was “thankfully” fine, with only minor injuries.

He said a suspect had been arrested for a variety of offence, including driving under the influence.

He added: “Important that awareness is raised as SCs so face the same issue as regular colleagues on patrol.”

Special constables are part-time volunteers who support the work of the police force.
