His suggestion comes after Lush, which has a store in Norwich's Gentleman's Walk, launched a controversial advertising campaign which featured slogans claiming police are 'paid to lie'.

Police and city shoppers have united in their anger at the campaign and, as previously reported, Mr Green has said 'Lush should wash their mouth out with soap. Norfolk has one of the finest police forces in the country and this country has one of the finest police forces in the world.'

On Saturday night Mr Green tweeted to Lush: 'Lush-if you are inclined to mend some fences might you like to discuss possibility of sponsorship for an Emergency Workers Appreciation Day in Norfolk? If you want to pursue contact me: Lorne Green Norfolk PCC @LorneEGreen.'

The Lush advert has been reported to Advertising Standards Authority, which is investigating.
