A family have described their shock after a fatal stabbing on their road saw armed police swoop on a house.

Police were called to the address at 10.15pm on Friday, September 21, following reports a woman had been stabbed.

She was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for treatment but died.

A man in his 20s has been arrested in connection with the incident, which was on the Reffley Estate, and was taken to King's Lynn Police Investigation Centre for questioning.

Neighbours Jason and Ronda Hawes have lived on the road for more than 17 years. They were alerted to the incident after their 18-year-old daughter heard noises coming from the other side of the street.

Mrs Hawes said: 'I initially didn't hear anything but my daughter came through saying she heard screaming and shouting from the other side of the street at around 10.30pm.'

'I looked out of the window and saw two women heading next door.

'Next thing there were police in the street and an ambulance. We had no idea if a person had escaped and if they were in our back garden. Unmarked police cars came and officers got out with guns.'

Mrs Howes works at the One Stop nearby on Reffley Lane.

She said: 'It's scary when it is right on your doorstep. Working in the shop you get to know everyone coming in to get their papers.

'This is a very friendly community but you don't know what goes on behind closed doors.'

The house is believed to be a rented property.

Mr Howes said: 'There are a lot of friendly young families on the estate but they kept to themselves. We still feel safe here though.'

Two police cars have been stationed outside of the property since this morning.

Forensic teams are currently on scene and the road between Fenland Road and Tennyson Avenue remains closed for investigation.

Another neighbour, who wished not to be named, said: 'This is a really nice part of King's Lynn, we never have anything like this.

'It's not right, it's a real shame. This is a major incident for King's Lynn. We don't know if they have children because we have never really seen them, they keep themselves to themselves.'

Norfolk Special Constabulary will be assisting King's Lynn police tonight.

A post on Twitter by NSC said: 'We will be providing additional policing resources to reassure the local community and protect the scene.
