Police are investigating following a dispute in a city street which led to one man being taken to hospital.
Officers were called to the incident in Dereham Road - close to a row of other shops including Ladbrokes - just before 1.20pm on Tuesday and police remained at the scene for several hours.
There was a high police presence and the area was cordoned off with police tape as officers carried out investigations until about 5.30pm.
A Norfolk police spokesman confirmed that a man had been assaulted with a piece of glass, causing minor injuries to his back and ear.
One man working in the area, who did not want to be named, said he had seen two men “giving each other mouth” before one of them “swung” at the other.
He said one of the men then went into a shop and came out with a mirror.
“He messed up the other guy with it,” he said.
“I do not know what they were arguing about but I saw the incident.
“It’s just crime in Norwich is increasing and everything, it’s a bit worrying.
“It used to be a safe fine city...now we find ourselves in the middle of a battlefield.”
Another man working close by, who also did not want to be named, added: “It was two guys having a fight.
“All I heard was a smash which looks like it was a mirror, and one guy was trying to attack the other with shards of it, and then the police turned up.”
When asked if he was shocked at what had happened, he said: “Not really, it’s getting to a point where something is happening most weeks.”
Many other people nearby said they had been aware of glass smashing and a commotion but that they had not directly seen what had happened.
One man said: “I was in the shop serving a customer.
“I heard a commotion and a couple of people came in and said somebody has been stabbed and that’s all I know.
“The police were there for hours.”
