A man who tried to smuggle mobile phones and sim cards into Norwich prison admitted to police he had been offered £300 to do so.
Neil Joseph, 49, admitted bringing two mobile phones, three sim cards and two chargers into HMP Norwich on May 9, when he appeared at Norwich Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
Denise Holland, prosecuting, told the court: 'When arrested he says he was told if he brought these items in he would get £300.
'His previous convictions include prison for 36 months for robbery. He must have known to bring any items into prison would put him in jeopardy.
'He knew the value placed on those sort of items in the prison system and the disruption it causes.
'The Crown say he has done this for payment and he knew what he was doing.'
Magistrates refused jurisdiction and sent Joseph, of Redcroft Road, Southall in Middlesex to Norwich Crown Court for sentencing on a date to be fixed.
