A man was detained in the grounds of a Norfolk primary school, after trying to flee police after reports of a domestic incident.

Police were called to Willowcroft Way in Cringleford at about 7.45am today to reports of a domestic incident involving a man and woman.

Norfolk police officers went to the scene. The man had tried to evade them by going on to the grounds of nearby Cringleford CE VA Primary School in Dragonfly Lane.

Police detained him on the school grounds and the man, aged in his 20s, was taken to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital for treatment, after suffering an injury to his left hand.

The police were detaining the man at the time when children were arriving at school. Staff ensured youngsters were brought in through the front gate, while the police dealt with the incident on the school grounds.

The school’s deputy headteacher Paul Andrew said children and staff were not in danger at any time.
