'I've had a few sleepless nights since then,' - man describes his terror after hearing man shot in Norwich park
A man has described the terrifying moment he heard someone being shot after an argument in a city park.
Officers were called to Adelaide Street at about 2am on Wednesday, June 27 after reports of an altercation followed by a gunshot.
Units, including armed response officers, arrived on scene to find a man with a gunshot wound to his back.
The victim, a 19-year-old from London, was taken to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital for treatment.
He remains in a serious condition although his injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
A man in his 30s, who lives in the area but did not want to be named, has told how he heard the attack and has called for CCTV to be brought into the park to make it safer for everyone.
He said: 'I was in the bedroom. I heard the argument and heard it escalate then shortly afterwards that pop.'
The man, who works in the security industry, had considered going down to intervene before hearing the gunshot.
He said: 'It was about 10 to 20 seconds later. I had time to start putting my shoes on before I heard the pop.
'I did hear a car screech away and had an idea it wasn't a firework and decided I wasn't going to take any chances.
'Once I realised it wasn't a firework it was 999 straight away.'
He added: 'I've never heard a gunshot before.
'When you hear a pop like that and realise its not a firework it's scary.
'I've had a few sleepless nights since then.
'If they'd have missed and it came through the window it could've hit any one of us.
'Not only that, it's the fact someone got shot in the first place right outside my window.'
He said they needed CCTV in that park to try to tackle issues, including drug dealing.
A 42-year-old woman who lives in the area, but who also did not want to be named, said had been left 'scared' following the incident.
After the incident three people – two 17-year-olds and a 26-year-old – have been arrested and released under investigation as the enquiry continues.
A police spokesman said investigations were continuing.
Witnesses have been urged to call Norwich CID on 101 quoting CAD reference 23 of 27-06-18.
