Officers made an unexpected takeaway after they discovered the man in the car park of the 24-hour McDonald’s on Clenchwarton Road, West Lynn, in the early hours of today.

Instead of a Big Mac and fries or a box of chicken nuggets from the drive-thru, he was soon on his way to sample the eat-in menu at the nearby Saddlebow police investigation centre.

The man, who has not been named, was described as being aged in his 50s and from neighbouring Cambridgeshire.

When found he was sitting in a car which had been jacked up with a burst tyre. He a had a piece of burnt tinfoil in his lap and a bag of 30g of brown powder in the central console of the vehicle. He was arrested for being unfit to drive through drugs and possessing heroin with intent to supply.

One officer tweeted: “Male just arrested [on suspicion of] possession of a large amount of heroin and unfit to drive through drugs.

“He was found slumped over his steering wheel when cops popped into a well known American restaurant. #BadTimingForHimAndUs #NuggsNotDrugs #I’mLovingIt.”

Police also seized two mobile phones, along with crumpled pieces of burned foil and a large quantity of cash in £5, £10 and £20 notes from the car. Investigations into possible offences are continuing.

A spokesman at Norfolk police’s Wymondham HQ later added: “A male in his 50s from Cambridgeshire was arrested in the West Lynn McDonald’s at 2am on Wednesday.

“He was arrested on suspicion of being in possession of Class A drugs, possession with intent to supply and driving whilst unfit through drugs.

“He was taken to King’s Lynn Police Investigation Centre where he was questioned and later released under investigation.”

While the arrested man comes from outside of Norfolk, the arrest is not believed to be linked to Operation Gravity - a police crackdown on so-called county lines dealers who come from cities elsewhere to target vulnerable users in Lynn and other towns.
