A purchasing manager for a Norfolk sports car manufacturer has been banned from driving after he admitted failing to provide a breath test.

Marc Adams, 37, a purchasing manager for Hethel-based Lotus Cars, hit the central reservation while driving at Wymondham.

Norwich Magistrates Court heard that Adams had been driving at 'excess speed' and had been changing lanes before the incident on May 5 this year.

Adams, who failed to provide a sample of breath for analysis, appeared at court on Friday where he admitted the offence.

Sally Dale, mitigating for Adams, of School View, Caston, Norfolk, said her client was not best pleased with himself and wanted 'to apologise to the court from the outset for his conduct on the day in question'.

Speaking on Friday (June 15) Mrs Dale said Adams had just moved to the address following what had been one of the most stressful times in their lives.

The couple had two house moves before this one fall through while one of his children, who is now six months old, had been diagnosed with a heart defect while in the womb.

They had a couple of glasses of wine but Adams realised he needed some cabling for their sound system and went to get some.

But Adams had also taken a second dose of codeine, just an hour after the first, and had a 'cracking headache'.

Mrs Dale said Adams had taken four codeine tablets 'not long before driving' on top of the two glasses of wine.

But while driving Adams did not feel at all well and 'was on the verge of black out' which is why he pulled over.

She said he apologised for his behaviour towards the police following the incident.

Mrs Dale said Adams would keep his job.

Adams was disqualified from driving for 16 months.

He was also fined £800, ordered to pay £85 costs and an £80 victim surcharge.
