A man has admitted to assaulting hospital staff and a police officer 'over a prolonged period of time'.

Jason Wrenn, 47, of Mulberry Close, Feltwell, was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King's Lynn with wounds on his arms on Monday, March 19, Lynn magistrates heard.

Prosecutor Fergus Harold said Wrenn was abusive towards hospital staff, shouting offensive language at the nurses in front of members of the public including children.

'He appeared so drunk that he couldn't walk or stand up so he was sitting on the floor,' Mr Harold added. 'He was asked to leave but refused, he had to be dragged by staff to get him to leave.

'He kicked at one of the staff and made contact with his right leg and then the defendant shuffled on the floor. At this point the police were called.'

Wrenn continued to shout abusive language, kicked a police constable and attempted to bite him, the court heard.

At police interview, Wrenn said he suffered from memory loss as a result of post traumatic stress disorder and offered his apologies to the police.

In court today, Wren pleaded guilty to assault by beating, assaulting a police constable and using threatening or abusive words or behaviour.

Andrea Clarke, mitigating for Wrenn, said the defendant was taken to hospital with self-inflicted wounds, adding: 'He is clearly a man who needs support and help. 'On the day in question he was found in a low mood and state, he accepts he had taken drink and struggles with alcohol dependency.

'He has very little recollection of what occurred on that day, during interview he was shown body camera footage and, having seen that, he accepted his behaviour and was remorseful and shocked.'

Chairman of the bench David Leathart told the defendant he will not face custody but is considering all other options. He added: 'This was over a prolonged period of time, you were aggressive, you're in a hospital and your victims were vulnerable doing a public service. 'Children were present and you were very drunk as well, your language was not very pleasant.'

Wrenn was bailed to return to court on Friday, May 11 for sentencing.
