Here is our monthly look back at some of the criminals jailed in Norfolk and Suffolk courts in May.

•Former teacher John Mckno was jailed for 14 years after he admitted four offences of indecent assault on a male under 16, two offences of gross indecency with a child and three other serious sexual offences. On giving the sentence Judge David Goodin said his victims had 'lived under the shadow of the terrible consequences of his abuse' for between 30 and 40 years.

•John Charlton and Tony Rand were jailed for six years and nine months after they were involved in a burglary in which a heavily pregnant woman was punched in the stomach at her Lowestoft home. Both admitted aggravated burglary.

Stuart Layden was jailed for life after he was found guilty of the murder of Ian Church in Great Yarmouth. The jury took four hours and 20 minutes to unanimously convict Layden, who has been on trial twice before for the offence. Judge Stephen Holt sentenced Layden to life imprisonment with a minimum notional term of 12 years minus the time he has already served which equates to a total of eight years and 357 days before he is eligible for parole.•A man who fled to Germany after leaving an elderly woman with a broken arm and leg injuries whilst trying to steal a bottle of alcohol from a King's Lynn store was jailed for 30 months. Alexsandrs Kukuskins was tracked down by police in Germany after a European Arrest Warrant was issued when he skipped bail. He pleaded guilty to theft, GBH and failing to surrender to police.

•Wendy Wilson of King's Lynn was jailed for six months after falsely claiming she had been raped by two Eastern European men. She admitted perverting the course of justice in relation to the false allegations and fraud by false representation in relation to the insurance claim. Overall the investigation cost £72,000 with a total of 76 officers working on the enquiry.
