The Armed Forces careers office on Magdalen Street had windows around the shop smashed and the glass of its door heavily damaged in an apparent attack which is suspected to have taken place in the early hours of this morning.

Workers at the office arrived to the scene this morning, where there were 16 different points of glass which had been left shattered.

A representative from Norfolk Constabulary said they were called to the scene at 7.45am.

They said that they suspect shots were repeatedly fired at the store from culprits using an air rifle or an airgun.

It is not known who was involved in the attack or what time it took place.

Workers at the careers office and the RAF have said that they would not issue any statement while police investigations are ongoing, but said the incident was 'shocking'.

People stopped and stared at the aftermath of the attack on the office on their way to work.

Brian Hodgson, 54, of Aylsham Road, Norwich, said: 'It looks as though someone has gone on a bit of rampage around the shop overnight. Hopefully whoever has done this gets caught out as it is a shocking act.'

Mary Taylor, 70, of Thorpe St Andrew said: 'It is quite despicable really. The door has been smashed in and each window has been hacked away at by where their banners are.'

Samuel Lewis-Knobbs, 23, of Great Yarmouth, said: 'By the manner the windows have been smashed, you'd have to think that there was clear intent behind the attack.'
