Hunstanton couple named as victims of crash on A17 near Boston

A couple who died after their car ploughed into a lorry have been named.

Ian Milligan, 87 and his 82-year-old wife Doris were involved in a collision on the A17 at Bicker bar, near Boston on Tuesday, November 7.

An inquest has now been opened into the death of the couple, who came from Hunstanton. It will resume at a later date.

Emergency services, including eight police cars, four fire engines and the Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire Air Ambulance were dispatched to the scene.

A lorry driver said he had slammed on his brakes and watched in horror on as the couple’s Volvo was involved in a head-on collision with the lorry before flipping upside down before it caught on fire.

The road was closed at the B1397 junction for a number of hours.The A17 is designated as “red route” meaning it is one of the most dangerous roads in Lincolnshire.
