A hoax call prompted an armed police response near the Boundary junction in Norwich.

Officers were called to a property in Reepham Road shortly after 6.20pm yesterday (Wednesday, May 30) to reports that a man had been seen with a gun.

A police spokesman said enquiries established it was a hoax call and officers were stood down shortly after 7.30pm.

“Responding to hoax calls wastes police time and resources of calls handlers, their supervisors and officers on the ground,” a police spokesman said.

“We have a finite number of resources at any given time. They need to be used to respond to people who are in genuine need of our help.”
