A young driver who has just been on the road for a year has been banned from driving after being caught speeding at more than 100mph.

Chelsea Moyse, 18, was doing 101mph - more than 30mph over the 70mph limit - when she was caught by police on the A11 at Spooner Row.

Moyse, of Cutler Road, Oulton, near Lowestoft, appeared at Norwich Magistrates Court on Monday (February 11) where she pleaded guilty to the offence on July 14 last year.

Moyse said she was 'really sorry' for speeding although did not know how fast she was going.

She told Magistrates' she had been driving for a year, was a mobile hairdresser who needed her licence to 'go to homes and do haircuts'.

But Moyse was banned from driving for 14 days by magistrates.

She was also fined £120, ordered to pay a £30 victim surcharge and pay £100 costs.

Earlier Jevgenijs Lukjanskis, 43, appeared before magistrates having pleaded guilty to driving at 93mph on the A11 at Snetterton on May 23 last year.

The defendant, from George's Farm, Eccles, already had six points on his licence for speeding and a further three points for using a mobile phone at the wheel.

Ian Fisher, mitigating, said the defendant, a Latvian, was contacted because his stepson was unwell and required treatment by the doctor.

Mr Fisher says the defendant was rushing to get back having been alerted to his step-son's condition.

Both he and his partner work at a farm in Mildenhall - meaning a 50 mile round trip every day.

Mr Fisher said the defendant's partner does not drive and depends on him to get both of them to work.

They both earn £300 a week but would lose that income and their home if the defendant lost his licence.

Mr Fisher said it would be a 'catastrophe' if that were to happen.

Magistrates' endorsed his licence with four penalty points - taking it to 13 - but said they had chosen not to disqualify him today due to 'exceptional hardship'. He was fined £200, ordered to pay a £30 victim surcharge and £100 costs.
