Ian Church suffered a fatal brain injury after he was attacked by a group of people outside the Bricklayers Arms in Yarmouth on May 5, 2012 and died two days later.

Three people had already been convicted of the murder of Mr Church and now a fourth, Stuart Layden, was found guilty of murder too.

Layden, formerly of South Quay, Yarmouth, was found guilty of murder by jurors following a trial at Norwich Crown Court in April 2013.

In March 2015, Layden had his appeal allowed by the Court of Appeal and a retrial commenced at the end of September 2015; however, the jury in that trial was discharged and a second re-trial began at Norwich Crown Court earlier this month.

A jury of six men and six women yesterday took four hours and 20 minutes to unanimously convict Layden.

Layden, 34, from Essex, was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum notional term of 12 years minus what he had already served which equated to eight years and 357 days before he is eligible for consideration for parole.

Judge Stephen Holt said he had 'joined in the attack' which has had such a 'devastating impact' on Mr Church's family.

When the verdict was announced loud screams of 'yes' came from the public gallery where the family and friends of Mr Church were sitting.

Speaking outside court Mr Church's mother, Margaret, 67, said they were 'over the moon' with the verdicts.

She said: 'We've been waiting four long years and are just so glad its all over. Finally we can lay him to rest and say good bye to him.'
