More than 70 people attended a moving candlelit vigil in memory of father-of-four Michael Seger who disappeared in March and whose body was discovered in an abandoned house in Norwich ten days ago.

The 52-year-old, of Fifers Lane, Old Catton, was formally identified on Tuesday and will be laid to rest at a private funeral to be held in a fortnight.

Last night, his family, friends and those who helped the high-profile campaign to bring him home attended a vigil at Catton Park where Mr Seger regularly took part in the weekly Park Run with his 10-year-old son, Marley.

His partner of 13 years Sandie Smith spoke to the crowd before lighting the first candle at the base of a 500-year-old oak tree with a black ribbon tied round it, which was Mr Seger's favourite, in the centre of the park.

She said: 'I hoped and prayed it would not turn out this way, but I am really grateful for all the support.

'He said to Marley this is where he would like to be and it just seems that this is the right place.'

Around 50 candles were lit at the base of the tree. Higher up, a picture of Mr Seger was placed next to a message that read 'when it rains look for rainbows, when it is dark look for stars.' A card was placed underneath the ribbon.

Kat Foy, a member of Michael's search team and the Help Find Michael Seger Facebook page, assisted in organising the event.

She said: 'It has been really emotional, but this is a nice send-off.'

Miss Foy confirmed that the Help Find Michael Seger page will be shut down tomorrow – 16 weeks after it was first set up with the purpose of helping find him.

Mr Seger, who went missing following a 'troubled' few months, ran the Holt leg of the Olympic Torch relay in 2012.

Miss Smith worked tirelessly to try and find her partner of 13 years, co-ordinating social media and public search campaigns to try to bring home her children's father.

Meanwhile, more than £1,800 has been raised as part of an online fund to help pay for a memorial bench to Mr Seger which will be placed at the base of a tree in Catton Park.

Miss Foy said Miss Smith and the rest of the team were 'so grateful' for the donations and messages of support that have continued to stream in over the past few days.
