A van driver was warned he faces jail after he was convicted of causing the death by dangerous driving of a cyclist at Bawsey, near King's Lynn.

The accident happened on the B1145 Gayton Road on October 12, 2016 at about 6.30am.

Cyclist Darren Orpwood, 35, died from multiple injuries he received in the collision with the white Ford Transit.

Sam McDonald, 23, of Rawhall Lane, Bittering, Dereham, was convicted of causing death by dangerous driving following a trial at Norwich Crown Court. McDonald had denied the offence but admitted causing death by careless driving.

The jury took nearly four hours to return a guilty verdict.

Judge Stephen Holt adjourned sentence until July 20 for reports and said that in tragic cases like this there were no winners.

He granted McDonald bail but said: 'Inevitably it is going to be a prison sentence.'
