A driver accidentally ran over a shopper breaking his ankle in Asda car park in Hellesdon after he hit the accelerator rather than the brake, a court heard.

Darren Taylor, 38 of Middleton’s Lane, Hellesdon, admitted driving without due care and attention on August 14, last year.

Neil Carr, prosecuting at Norwich magistrates court, said that Taylor reversed out of a parking bay in his black Audi car and saw the shopper walk in front of his car.

He said that Taylor started to move forward and went to put his foot on the brake but hit the accelerator instead which caused him to move forward and run over the shopper breaking his left ankle.

The court heard Taylor pleaded guilty by post and did not appear for the court hearing.

Taylor was fined £290.

He was also ordered to pay £100 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

He also had five points on his driving licence.
