A father came up with a unique excuse to a police officer after he was stopped doing more than 100mph on the A11.

The driver, who had two sons in the car, was caught doing 102mph by an officer from the Norfolk and Suffolk Roads Policing team.

After he was pulled over he told the officer “he wanted to see his friend’s house before it got dark.”

The driver was one of seven motorists stopped by the officer on Saturday, doing speeds between 93mph and 102mph on the A11.

One of these drivers, a 23-year-old man, was caught doing 99mph with three young passengers in the vehicle.

The driver told the officer he was late for his sporting event.

Earlier in the week a driver, who was caught speeding at 96mph on the A11 at Wymondham, told police he “wanted to keep the kids happy” by going faster.

He had two five-year-old children were in the back seat.
