A murder probe has been launched into the death of a 39-year-old man who was attacked at a property in Norwich.
James Greene was found by police in a serious condition at a flat in Dolphin Grove at about 10pm on Tuesday, June 4.
He was taken to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, but died in the early hours of Thursday morning (June 6).
His family said they were "devastated and shocked" by his death.
A man aged in his 20s, who was arrested in connection with the incident, has been rearrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody.
Officers have been given more time to question the suspect after successfully obtaining a warrant for further detention from Norwich Magistrates' Court.
A Home Office post-mortem examination is due to take place later today to establish the exact cause of Mr Greene's death.
In a statement, Mr Greene's family said: "We are devastated and shocked by James' death and would like to thank the staff at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital for all of their support."
Detective chief inspector Stuart Chapman, from the Norfolk and Suffolk Major Investigation Team, said: "Our thoughts are with James' family and friends at this time.
"It appears from our early enquires that James and the suspect were known to each other and our investigations are ongoing to identify the exact cause and circumstances of his death.
"We know this incident will have caused concern among local residents.
"Officers from the Norwich East Safer Neighbourhood Team will be carrying out reassurance patrols in the area over the coming days and anyone with concerns is encouraged to speak to them."
Pending formal Coroner's inquest proceedings, police provisionally identified Mr Greene. They said he lived at Dolphin Grove.
A 72-year-old resident who has lived at Dolphin Grove for 25 years, said: "It is so sad to hear [about Mr Greene]. He belonged to someone. It is awful."
David Aspin, who lives nearby at Watson Grove, said: "Over the past 16 years I have watched this area go from a very nice place to live to somewhere where there is a lot of low-level drug related crime."
