An 18-year-old man from King's Lynn ran from police when they tried to conduct a roadside breath test, a court heard.

Danny Setchell, of Wootton Road, appeared in King's Lynn magistrates' court on Monday, September 4, where he pleaded guilty to driving while being above the alcohol limit.

Fergus Harold, prosecuting, said on July 29 police stopped Setchell's vehicle in Hardwick. Mr Harold said: 'The defendant ran off from the car leaving three female passengers in the vehicle.'

He was later found and taken to the police station, where a breath test showed he had 41mcg of alcohol in 100ml breath. The legal limit is 35mcg.

Tim Bartlam, mitigating, said: 'He panicked and ran off. He thought better of it and walked back to the car to put that situation right.'

Setchell was banned from driving for 12 months and fined £150. He was ordered to pay £30 victim surcharge and £85 court costs.
