A teenage cyclist was caught by police doing a wheelie on busy Gorleston High Street, a court heard.

Kye Jacobs, 18, of Europa Road, Lowestoft, was caught doing the wheelie by police who were cracking down on anti-social behaviour in the area following complaints, Norwich magistrates were told.

Neil Carr, prosecuting, said the wheelie was witnessed by two officers who were in the area to spot nuisance behaviour.

Jacobs was charged with riding a bike without due care and attention and magistrates found the case proved in his absence.

He was fined £220 and ordered to pay £100 towards costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

The prosecution comes following a police crackdown in which 18 youths in the area have been dealt with through community resolution.

It was prompted by numerous complaints from the public about irresponsible cycling.
