A reward of £10,000 has been announced in a bid find the murderer of 86 year-old Una Crown.

Crimestoppers, an independent charity, has put up the reward in a bid to help police catch those responsible for the murder of the frail widow found dead in her Wisbech home.

Ann Scott, Crimestoppers Eastern Regional Manager, said: 'This innocent lady was violently killed and robbed of her life in her own home.

'It is saddening news that individuals can commit such crimes and go as far as burning the victim's clothing in an attempt to hide their hideous acts of malice. This community has been left shocked and horrified by this crime.

'If anyone knows anything at all about what happened and who is responsible for this crime then please contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or through our secure online form at http://www.crimestoppers-uk.org/.

'The charity is offering this reward to help get to the bottom of who is responsible for this murder. All genuine information is valuable to us so please get in touch.'

The £10,000 reward can only be claimed by those who provide information to Crimestoppers directly on 0800 555 111 which leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for Mrs Crown's murder.

Anyone involved in the murder will not be eligible to claim any of the reward.

Mrs Crown's body was discovered in her bungalow in Magazine Lane at 10.45am on Sunday, January 13. She was last seen alive on Friday, January 11, but had spoken to a friend on the telephone at about 5pm on the Saturday.

A post-mortem examination found she had died from stab wounds to her neck and chest. Her clothing was set on fire after her death in an apparent effort to hide her injuries and destroy evidence.

Det Ch Insp Jon Hutchinson said: 'I hope this reward will motivate someone to come forward with that crucial piece of evidence that will lead us to Mrs Crown's killer.

'This was a horrific murder of an elderly woman in her own home.

'Someone out there knows what happened on the night she was killed and I would urge them to do the right thing and call police or the charity Crimestoppers.'
