A coroner will next month decide whether a hoard of Iron Age coins discovered in a Norfolk village will be declared treasure trove.

A total of 75 coins, dating back to between 800BC and 43AD, were found between January 2014 and March 2015 by a Mr Melton.

Snettisham is well known for its treasure, with at least 12 separate hoards being discovered over a period of 60 years.

Previous discoveries, collectively known as the Snettisham treasure, includes over 200 torcs, over 100 bracelets and 234 coins and forms the largest deposit of gold, silver and bronze artefacts from the Iron Age that has been discovered in Europe.

The most recent find adds to the historical significance of the north west Norfolk village, with museums in the area likely to be interested in the treasure.

An inquest was opened in Norwich by area coroner Yvonne Blake and it was adjourned for a full hearing on August 2.
