More victims of crime in the Fens are being offered GP-style appointments with police officers.

From Monday, a pilot scheme launched at March and Huntingdon police stations last month will be rolled out to other Cambridgeshire towns including Wisbech and Ely.

The scheme will free-up officers to spend more time patrolling neighbourhoods.

Supt Mike Brown, of Cambridgeshire police, said: “The pilot is still in its early stages but it has been well received by the public so far and, on average, around a third of all slots have been filled on a daily basis.

“We were always going to explore the use of other sites, by introducing the scheme to other stations it will make it more accessible for everyone living in Cambridgeshire.”
