Norfolk police made 11 arrests and 10 direction to leave notices were given to party-goers in Norwich during New Year's Eve celebrations.

Extra officers were on patrol in Norwich and other Norfolk towns last night to make sure the public could enjoy their celebrations safely.

There were 11 arrests made in the city as part of public order patrols and 10 direction to leave notices were issued meaning that people could be removed from an area.

Arrests occurred on Prince of Wales Road, Bank Plain and London Street. Six were for being drunk and disorderly, one for threatening behaviour, three assaults and one man was wanted by another police force.

A further 10 direction to leave notices were issued, meaning police could remove people from a specified area.

Superintendent Malcolm Cooke from Norfolk Police, said: 'New Year's Eve celebrations in Norfolk again saw a large number of people out and about enjoying the festivities.

'The event is a significant policing operation planned months in advance in order to ensure there are sufficient resources in place to keep the public safe.

'There were occasions during the evening when it was busy for police and I would take this opportunity to thank the public for their support and understanding.

'What we have to remember is the vast majority of revellers simply had an enjoyable evening out.'
