The last time a rock band was linked with Southwold there was uproar as Lowestoft glam merchants The Darkness talked of buying the seaside town.

But it was a different story yesterday as Norwich four-piece Cord relaxed on the pier while covers for their forthcoming singles and album were shot.

Lead singer James Leeds and drummer Phil Davison settled down on a bench while an art director, his two assistants and a photographer carried mannequins around.

There was no hint of frustration, despite last week's decision to postpone the release of their first chart single, called Winter, for the second time. In fact the only issue to trouble the band, whose CD hits the shops on June 26, was not being able to get on the beach because contractors are busy on it.

“We had hoped to be taking pictures on the beach and we had no idea it would be closed,” he said. “It doesn't look as good with all the pipes all over it.”

The band recently finished filming the video for Winter and were hoping for regular airplay from Radio 1.

That seems unlikely now, but James is still hopeful the single will make the top 40 and the band have been busy preparing themselves for the next run of live gigs.

“We will be playing to more than 20,000 people altogether in the next week,” he added. “We are very excited but also a bit nervous.”

After the latest tour, taking them across the UK, Cord will be back in East Anglia for the Latitude Festival at Henham Park, between Southwold and Halesworth, where they are playing on July 14 and sharing the bill with Snow Patrol and the Zutons.
