A community has spoken of its sadness after two men died in a tragic accident on the A47.
A coach and transit van were involved in a collision at around 5.30pm yesterday on the A47 at Constitution Hill around half a mile east of the Hardwick roundabout at King's Lynn.
Police confirmed the passenger of the van had died at the scene and the driver was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital but died a short time later.
The coach slewed across the road, blocking both carriageways. The driver and passengers suffered minor bruising and were taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
Peter Gidney, ward councillor for West Winch, said: 'What can one say, it is a tragedy. I offer my condolences to the family, when things like this happen you can't turn back the clock.'
Mr Gidney said problems with traffic in the area have always existed, adding: 'It is a highways issue and the people of West Winch are always raising concerns of problems with the roundabout and that stretch of road. 'Generally traffic is getting difficult everywhere, when there is an accident the town is grid locked for two hours sometimes. 'The traffic we are getting on the roads these days is dangerous.'
He said concerns also have been raised from visitors about the Hardwick roundabout, saying that it caused confusion for drivers not familiar with the area.
Sharon Coleman, from V&J Knitwear in the Hardwick Narrows estate, said: 'It is always congested.
'The Hardwick roundabout is so big is doesn't seem like a roundabout. Someone came round the wrong way the other day, an elderly lady. 'If you are not local to the area or don't use it a lot the roundabout is horrific.
'There is always people honking there horns, road rage and people skipping lanes.'
County councillor Alexandra Kemp said: 'It is absolutely shocking.
'You could see the congestion from Queen Elizabeth Way and the town is grid locked so regularly.'
Ms Kemp said roads in the town can't cope with traffic and more needs to be done to relieve the matter. She called for a bypass at Setchey and West Winch as well as a fly over at Queen Elizabeth Way for traffic coming from outside the town.
She added: 'Traffic wouldn't have to come round Hardwick and wouldn't necessarily have to go through the town centre, there needs to be another gateway to Lynn.'
