A classic car show held earlier this year raised a huge amount of money for the Great Ormond Street children's hospital in London.

More than £7,000 was raised by the event held in Corton on May 19, but also at local fairs and festivals, with more yet to be donated.

And on Sunday, September 8 at Oulton Broad, the latest total was announced.

Garry Smith, 61, a vehicle inspector technician for First Bus, has been raising money for the hospital ever since his granddaughter Isabella May-Smith had a heart operation there.

He organised the car show earlier this year along with his family.

He said: "My grandaughter had a heart operation at seven days old, and we just want to give back."

Mr Smith has been organising the car show for six years, and has raised more than £24,000 in total.

He said: "It will go directly to Great Ormond Street, into children's accomodation, research, and into the hospital generally.

"Isabella has had five major heart operations and the service and care has been absolutely superb. Thankfully, she is now doing absolutely fine."

"I just want to say thank you to everyone who has donated."

Next year's Corton classic car show will be held on May 17 on Corton playing fields.
