A classic car rally in memory of a pub landlord who was lost at sea in a boating accident is hoping to raise hundreds of pounds for charity.

The rally takes place on Sunday July 13 at The Goat Inn at Skeyton and after 60 miles of scenic roads, finishes at Felbrigg Hall.

This is the 20th time the rally has been held and it is in memory of Charles Clark, former landlord of the The Wiveton Bell in Wiveton, who was lost at sea in a boating accident in May 1998.

He held a passion for cars, particularly Jaguars, and had installed an engine from a Jaguar E Type car in the pub's fireplace. He began the car rally in 1995.

After the accident, his parents took over running it, and then it was taken on by Richard and Margaret at the Alby Horse Shoes Inn before being passed on six years ago to Brian Monks, who was one of the founder members of a car club which Mr Clark was involved with.

Each year the rally raises money for charity and this year the chosen charity is the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, something close to the heart of Mr Monks from Saxthorpe, who now organises the rally with his daughter Sarah. It is 30 years since his 15-year-old son Simon died of the disease.

He said: 'I love classic cars, it is good fun.'

The rally is open to all vintage, classic and modern sports cars with prizes for the most desirable car, best condition and the most fun car. The capacity is for around 75 cars.

Entry forms can be obtained from brian@burecottage.co.uk or by calling 01263 587118.
