There was a great deal of interest at St Peter and St Paul Church at Honing with a Dad’s Army-type exhibition in the churchyard and 1940s-style tea and cakes in the church.

A motorbike complete with accessories was centre of attention with David Garrett, from nearby Witton, dressed in full army uniform while on celebration duty with rifle at the ready.

The Rev Barry Furness could not resist the temptation to get in the saddle of the classic bike and wore a hard hat for full effect.

Volunteers Betty Hipsy and Diana Howes dished up refreshments and offered patriotic cake with Union Flag colours, made by Dr Jenny Latoy.
