Two students from City College Norwich are gearing up for a charity comedy night that they have organised.

The event, entitled 'Funny Thursday', is being held at Norwich pub the Hog In Armour, on Charing Cross, on Thursday, March 22.

It has been organised by Charlotte Hobbs, 17, and Olivia Grosvenor, 18, as part of their Creative and Media Advanced Diploma.

The girls are aiming to raise money for East Anglia's Children's Hospices (EACH) Quidenham hospice, near Attleborough.

Olivia explained: 'The initial purpose of the comedy show is to complete a unit in the course entitled 'Show'. This is where students must organise and produce their own production; whether it be music, comedy or theatre based.'

The charity is close to Charlotte, from Swaffham, and Olivia's hearts as they have worked with them before on other projects and because Olivia used to attend the hospice for respite when she was a child.

Olivia, who lives in Weybourne on the north Norfolk coast, has had a brain tumour since early-childhood which affects her memory.

Money raised will go towards helping EACH to continue supporting seriously ill children and their families, as well as providing a fun environment for children to enjoy staying in.

The comedy night itself is to be compered by local comedian Dan Sands and will feature professional comedian Laura Carr, an ex-student at City College Norwich.

The event will also feature several acts from the UEA comedy society, Headlights, including Charlie Tarren, Nathen Wilcock and Carl Schutt.

Olivia added: 'We're very lucky to have Laura Carr and Dan Sands involved in our comedy show, as well as having the support of the UEA Headlights comedy society.

'They're all great comedians and the line-up will make for a brilliant night. It's a fantastic opportunity for us to organise such an event and we hope to raise lots of money for our charity.'

The event is being held in the larger function room upstairs at the Hog in Armour from 7.30pm until around 10.30pm. Adult tickets are 7 and tickets for students and under-18s are 5. Tickets for the event are available from the Student Union office at City College, or by emailing funnythursday@yahoo.co.uk
