A mum has been emotionally reunited with her son for Christmas after more than two years apart.
In what she has described as a festive “miracle”, Louise Barton has been reunited with her 13-year-old boy Seth after she left her native Australia following a divorce from her previous husband.
The 33-year-old from Melbourne, Australia has not spent Christmas with her son Seth in three years, claiming she was denied unsupervised access to her child.
While she was on a working tour of the United States in 2015 as a singer, her husband was able to dissolve the marriage and remarry.
Ms Barton met her new partner, Simon, while visiting her London-born grandmother Joan last year.
“I came over here with just the clothes off my back,” said Ms Barton. “Originally we moved to Eastbourne but Simon got in quite a serious motorcycle accident in August of last year, which nearly killed him.
“His family lived up in Norwich so we moved closer to have a little more family support.
“We are still picking ourselves up which is why it has taken me so long to get any resolution as far as my son is concerned.”
Ms Barton, who now lives in Wymondham, said she had been trying to arrange for visitation with Seth for 18 months.
“The moment this new woman came onto the scene all contact stopped and Seth was put in a very difficult situation,” she said.
“I was completely blocked from contacting him on social media and all my phone calls were on speaker phone.
“To get Seth here for Christmas is nothing short of a miracle. I got a text from my husband’s wife out of the blue and she said you can have him for Christmas.”
Seth landed on November 30, the first time the mother and son had been together for more than two years.
On January 25 he will return to Australia but Ms Barton said she is pursuing full custody.
“I have to deal with the heartbreak of sending him back, not knowing when I will see him again,” she said.
“It is going to be quite a homely Christmas with just the family - full of love.
“It is his first time out of Australia and he hasn’t left my side. I am just relishing every moment. Just being in each other’s presence is so special.”
