The Christmas lights have been switched on atop the scaffolding at the Britons Arms in Elm Hill in the heart of historic Norwich.
One of Norwich's oldest buildings is undergoing a �35,000 renovation and the scaffolding will be in situ for about 20 weeks. However, the coffee house and restaurant will remain open throughout the duration.
The lease on the 15th century building has been taken over by the Norwich Preservation Trust, and thanks to funding from English Heritage and other sources, phase one of the renovation, the thatching, will begin in January. The restoration comes after a battle to save the publicly-owned coffee house from being auctioned off by Norwich City Council was won in October 2011 in a campaign publicised by the Norwich Evening News.
