Chef signs off after 41 years at the QEH in King’s Lynn
Generations of West Norfolk residents have every reason to be grateful to a six-million-meal chef who has just retired from the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
David Whitby spent 41 years as head chef and during that time, averaging 450 meals a day, he is estimated to have been involved in preparing an amzing six million meals for both patients and staff.
Colleagues at the King's Lynn hospital gathered in the staff dining room for a send-off with a celebration lunch and to wish him all the best for the future.
'I suppose I must have liked it here to have stayed so long. The job has changed beyond all recognition since I started, but I've worked with some great people over the years,' he said.
Mr Whitby trained at the Golden Lion, Hunstanton, and in London.
