A village playgroup is celebrating a 'good' grading from Ofsted, more than three years after its previous inspection.

Bramble Bears Playgroup and Preschool, based in Ashwellthorpe Village Hall, was praised by the education and children's services watchdog, whose report highlighted that 'equality and inclusion are at the heart of everything that the staff do with the children'.

The result has delighted the team at the playgroup, which has been running for nearly 49 years - led by a committee of volunteers.

The playgroup employs six members of staff and currently serves 27 families.

Rachel Beach, chairman of Bramble Bears, said: 'I'm really pleased Ofsted has once again recognised the great work that Bramble Bears does.

'The ever-increasing government regulations, combined with acute financial pressures mean that times are hard for community-run, not-for-profit playgroups like ours.

'We rely on dedicated staff and volunteers who are always looking for opportunities to improve the care and education we provide. Our excellent staff are our greatest asset and they have already taken on board Ofsted's recommendations for how Bramble Bears can become 'outstanding' at our next inspection.'

The Ofsted report followed an inspection on December 12 last year.

The report praised the group's 'highly effective staff', and for their close work with parents.

Ms Beach said Bramble Bears was well supported by the community and recently received a donation from Newton Flotman-based firm, KT Lake Paving and Landscaping.

She said the firm had donated a new fence for its outside play area.

Andy Mcdonnell, Iain Burrell and Dave Willis volunteered their time and skills to install the fence.

Ms Beach said: 'We are very grateful to Karl Lake and to Andy, Iain and Dave for their work on the new fence to ensure we have a great outdoor space for the children.'

The last time Ofsted inspected the playgroup was in October, 2013, and then also found it 'good'.
