The family of a little boy born with a congenital heart defect have released a heartwarming video of his difficult start in life to raise awareness of the condition.
Four-year-old Kaiden Griffin narrates the entire four-minute film telling everyone how his parents were so excited to find out they were expecting him and then the shock of learning he had a 'poorly heart'.
Mum Kyra Welch and dad Keiron Griffin, who live in Holt, were told by doctors to take Kaiden home and 'make some memories' after discovering the situation with his abnormal heart, lungs and veins was too complex for him to undergo an operation.
But the youngster has continued to defy medical expectation by celebrating his fourth birthday and will soon be starting at Holt Primary School, a day his parents never thought they would see.
Miss Welch, who is from North Creake, said Kaiden was 'doing amazingly well'.
She said: 'We made a video a couple of years ago but he has done so well so we wanted to update it and celebrate the fact he is still here.'
She said some of the lines Kaiden read proved a little challenging.
'He is adamant he doesn't have a poorly heart so he didn't know why he had to tell everyone that,' she said.
'But he can do almost anything a normal four-year-old boy can do. He is a real outdoors boy, he loves the horses. We know his heart condition might restrict him but even at his pre-school sports day he ran all his races and finished them. He is adamant he can do anything.'
Miss Welch said they have noticed some deterioration in his condition. If he gets out of breath he goes blue round the lips and has extra oxygen at home.
But they felt it was important to make other people aware of congenital heart defects as they were more common that they realised.
'Before Kaiden was diagnosed we had never heard of it,' said Miss Welch. 'It is ridiculously common but I was so clueless as to its existence.'
Kaiden's family has raised thousands of pounds for various causes, including Kaiden's Big Fight, a charity they set up themselves which has helped families with sick children go on holidays.
Tomorrow 15 family and friends will take part in a sponsored climb of Mount Snowdon. To find out how to donate to the fund go to the Facebook page Kaidens Big Fight here.
