The biggest event in the Diss calendar is just days away - and organisers are confident this year's carnival will be a success.

Doreen Collins, carnival coordinator, said the main show would be staged in an arena at Diss Town Football Club's Brewers Green Lane ground on Sunday.

So far, approximately 27 floats have come forward to participate in the procession, which Mrs Collins believed was slightly more than last year's parade.

She added: 'I think this year it will be different because it is at a different time of day. We have got an arena this year, which we have not had for two or three years so it should be good.'

The first act to perform on Sunday will be dancers from the LK School of Dance at Burston, who will be giving a display in the Market Place at 10.30am.

They will be followed by the procession through the town at 11.30am and the gates will open for the fun day on the football ground at noon.

Centre stage at the fun day will be the RAF Falcons Parachute Display Team, based at RAF Brize Norton, who will be dropping into the arena at 1.30pm.

The team is due to be performing at events across the UK and Europe this year and they could perform a High Show, between 9,000ft and 12,000ft, a Mid Show, between 5,000ft and 9,000ft or a Low Show, between 2,500ft and 5,000ft.

The arena will then be reduced in size for displays by the Urban Allstars Majorettes and Terri Cave, who will be doing Zumba aerobics.

There will be a performance by a Samurai sword group and children's entertainer Bazza Bizarre, who will be doing circus tricks, while Neil Reeve will demonstrate magic and balloon making.

The cycling organisation Activating CIC will also provide a wooden track on which visitors can have a go at cycling.

Activities lined up for the fun day include a craft marquee and a performance by the Phoenix Rescue birds of prey, while the Zoo-tastic Mobile Petting Zoo will also be appearing with a range of animals including birds of prey, spiders and snakes that children can touch.

Mrs Collins said: 'I think it will be interesting this year because there will be a lot of different events taking place.'

On Saturday evening, there will be a Park Alive concert featuring local musicians.
