An organisation which aims to support carers of all ages has opened its new offices in a town.

Carers Trust Norfolk welcomed South West Norfolk MP Elizabeth Truss as she helped officially open their Swaffham office, in Turbine Way.

A ceremony was held at the Green Britain Centre where Ms Truss, who is also secretary of state for environmental and rural affairs, heard from carers about their work.

The trust aims to provide advice and support to carers as well as provide respite care and activities.

Ms Truss said: 'I am delighted that the new office has been opened in Swaffham. The Carers Trust offers really important support for all the superb carers in the county.

'In a rural area quite often people can be isolated, they might struggle with taking transport, and it is an important service.

'I think the Carers Trust and today's launch provides a really important way of reaching out to people and saying, 'if you are a carer there is extra help and support you can get'.'

The trust also has offices in Ketteringham and Gorleston and employs 73 people across the whole of Norfolk.

It currently supports 306 families in Norfolk.

Ann Braithwaite, a trustee of the Carers Trust, said: 'Opening our offices here is important for the local carers that we are hoping to continue supporting and to those who we hope we might find to help.

'We help people of all ages. There are young people struggling to help maybe with a single mother who has a disability and that can affect a young person's education and the rest of their life.'

The trust is aiming to reach as many carers as possible and aims to help with whatever difficulties they face.
