Organisers of the Hilgay Raft Race have launched an urgent public appeal – for donations of rubber ducks.
It is less than eight weeks away from this year’s event and the Duck Race event is running short of floating competitors.
As well as the famous raft race, the duck race has become a popular part of the summer fundraiser along the banks of the River Wissey.
“But we need a lot more rubber ducks,” said butcher Ali Dent, one of the organisers. “If you can part with your rubber duck, or would like to donate a duck, it all goes towards a good cause.
“We want to try and collect as many as possible for the duck race.”
Ducks can be dropped off at Dent’s Butchers, in Hilgay, near Downham Market.
The Hilgay Raft Race will take place on Sunday, July 5, and is in aid of the Norfolk Hospice, Tapping House.
A cardboard canoe race has also been added to the list of activities this year and more tyre inner tubes are needed for the inner tube swim.
Entries are being accepted for the raft race and it is hoped more teams than ever will build a raft and participate.
“We’re urging people to help us make this year’s event bigger and better than ever,” Mr Dent added.
“Everyone that takes part enjoys themselves, whatever the weather. It’s always a great day out.”
The event is also supported by the Rotary Club of Downham. Food and refreshments will also be available throughout the day.
Last year’s Hilgay Raft Race raised £4,000 for the Stroke Association.
- The famous raft race will take place from 1pm on Sunday, July 5. Entry £1; Concessions and Under 12s are free. For details on entering a raft or for further information, contact Ali Dent on 01366 387686.
- Amazon vouchers worth £100 are the top prize at the Grand Raffle being drawn at the Hilgay Book Sale on Sunday. Tickets are available from Dents Butchers in Hilgay and are in aid of the Multiple Sclerosis Society King’s Lynn and District Branch.
