Five candidates will battle it out for the seat on Breckland Council vacated by Conservative Charles Carter who resigned after being filmed making lewd comments to a hunt protestor.

Conservative Theresa Hewett, Labour's Joe Sisto, Liberal Democrat Andrew Thorpe, Independent Pat Warwick and Dave Williams, from UKIP, will contest the Saham Toney ward.

Mr Carter resigned last month after a video emerged of him using sexually offensive language to a female protester at a hunt in Yorkshire, in which he said: 'I'd quite like to **** you', before adding: 'Can I take you to bed, please?'

People can vote on March 16, between 7am and 10pm at Carbrooke Coronation Hall, Ovington Village Hall, Bradenham Village Hall, Wells-Cole Community Centre in Saham Toney and Scoulton Village Hall.

Applications to vote by proxy must reach Breckland Council's offices in Dereham by 5pm on March 8.
