Norfolk's families, beach-lovers and tourists have been asked to vote for their favourite beach in a poll aimed to attract more visitors to north Norfolk's beaches.

The Back a North Norfolk Beach campaign plans to broadcast that Cromer and the coast is back up and running after December's tidal surge.

Martin Torrens, marketing director at This is Cromer, said although tourists staying on the coast for a number of days was important he was also keen to encourage day visitors.

He said: 'When the bad weather came there were lots of images of destruction which made Cromer look like it was not a very welcoming place to come – but it wasn't just Cromer, lots of resorts suffered.

'The campaign is to get people to think positively about north Norfolk and to see what is really popular with tourists.'

He said Cromer was a great base for a holiday, allowing visitors to take day trips to see north Norfolk's other attractions.

Mr Torrens, owner of Virginia Court Hotel in Cromer, said: 'There are lots of holiday makers who come from clearly defined areas such as Lincoln and Leicester which are close enough to come for a quick break.

'We may not come top of our own poll but the important thing is to get people talking about visiting their favourite north Norfolk beaches.'

Tracey Khalil, president of Cromer Chamber of Trade, said visitors did not have to travel far to enjoy the beach.

She said: 'If you are an early riser come and see the sunrise or if you like the evening come and see the sunset.'

And Cromer trader Richard Leeds said he wanted to show Cromer beach was good, clean and safe. He said: 'People are playing here and that is the nice thing.'

The beach will be manned by lifeguards from May from 10am to 6pm.

And for the first year, Wells-next-the-sea will have its own lifeguards.
