A major Norwich shop refit has fuelled the expansion of a small coffee van business.

Carrello's – which was started by former kitchen fitter Brian Wells outside Marks and Spencer more than three years ago – now has a second van which trades outside Jarrold's.

The recent refit of Marks and Spencer saw business boom from builders and shop staff, which Mr Wells said had allowed him to expand. He said he was hoping to expand further and had many more ideas.

Mr Wells started the business after his mother Trish died of cancer and it is very much a family business with his father John, uncle Alan and son Jack also involved in the enterprise.

His mother worked at Jarrold's and Mr Wells said that many of his new customers are former colleagues of his mother.

He said he thought the success of the business was down to the personal touch.

'We have very loyal customers. Hopefully it's the coffee. People love to be able to stand outside and get out of the office.

'A lot of people do not like these big companies. The weather is against us, like it is for everybody at the moment, but we stick it out in all seasons,' he added.
