More than 12,000 temporary jobs from doctors to chefs are on offer this summer, according to a study.

Jobs site Adzuna said London and the south east were leading a seasonal jobs 'bonanza'.

Sporting fixtures including the Wimbledon tennis tournament, horse racing at Ascot and the Henley rowing regatta also trigger thousands of temporary positions.

Music festivals including Glastonbury, Reading and Leeds also hire thousands of temporary staff.

Doug Monro, co-founder of Adzuna, said: 'Plenty of jobseekers will be looking to boost their bank balances with seasonal work over summer, and the good news is that there are thousands of openings to choose from.

'Meanwhile, skilled professionals can cash-in on holiday season and earn big by taking on specialist locum cover positions.'

The best paid summer jobs include a locum GP, offering £1,200 a day, emergency vet (£300) and head chef (£273), said the report, while the lowest included cleaners and festival assistant at £7.50 an hour.
