A philosophy to secure long-term relationships has paid off for a King's Lynn-based construction firm which has won more work with Coca-Cola Enterprises.

Chalcroft, which specialises in food-and-drink sector construction, will be working at the drink giant's Edmonton, in Enfield, London, bottling plant. It has already completed a project to transform a disused production area into a new bottle blowing and filling line, and the latest project will see a workshop area refurbished to become an extension of that line.

The new scheme involves moving materials alongside the existing production line. It will see screens erected to ensure no loss of production throughout the works.

Chalcroft managing director Mark Reeve said that while he was unable to say what the value of the contract with Coca Cola was, the work it is doing is part of an investment which is worth several million pounds to Coca-Cola.

He said: 'It is a reasonable size project. We have worked with them several times and we have got a good relationship with them.'

He added: 'Our philosophy is to secure long-term relationships and in order to do that it needs to be with large multinational and national companies.'

The company also works with big names including Nestle and Premier Foods and it has just started working with Princes at its factory in Bradford. It has also picked up work from the Haines Daniels Group in Fakenham worth several million pounds. Mr Reeve added: 'Things remain relatively good. The food and beverage sector is still moving. The reality is, I wouldn't like to say we are doing fantastically well, but we are holding our own.' Chalcroft had sales of 35m last year and expects its latest turnover to be 40m. It employs 100 people, but also takes on another 200-300 depending on its work schedule.
