There are only a few weeks left for young people involved in the farming sector to enter this year's Norfolk Scholar Initiative.

Now in its second year, the scholarship project was designed to underpin the future of the region's agricultural sector.

Run by Bidwells and the Royal Norfolk Agricultural Association (RNAA), the scheme exposes winners to national and international speakers ranging from practical farmers, politicians, food chain representatives, policy makers, academics, scientists and diplomats by allowing them to attend the Oxford Farming Conference.

The January conference is a leading forum for discussing how the industry will adapt to the international requirements placed on it, and the opportunities this brings.

This year there are four places to be won, up from last year's two places - but entries must be in by October 3.

You must be aged between 18 and 35, live, work or study in Norfolk and be prepared to answer a trio of written questions about the challenges facing UK agriculture, your potential contribution and how attendance at Oxford would benefit you personally.

Greg Smith, chief executive of the RNAA, said: 'The RNAA has a clear remit to help the development of the county's future agricultural leaders and projects of this type ensure that they, and Norfolk as a whole, benefit from exposure to the leading national and international thinking within the sector.'

Christopher Bond, partner at Bidwells, said: 'Due to last years' success it was fundamental to continue this initiative in order to help more young talented people within the industry.

'The conference's 2015 theme of 'Ambitious Agriculture' is very fitting as this is exactly what we are looking for in our next Norfolk Scholars.'

Last years' successful scholars were Rebecca Colman and Andrew Spinks.

Mr Spinks, a technical manager at B&C Farming Ltd near Aylsham and who also owns and manages Mill Meadow Livestock, said: 'The experience of attending the conference was tremendously inspiring and thought provoking.'
